Abstract

The article deals with the definitions of such terms as «Asia Pacific» and «Indo-Pacific» as well as their usage. The author considers several levels of rhetoric: scholastic and official in the first place. The paper draws a comparative analysis of how both attributes are used in the social and political scholarly texts along with government documents and speeches made by officials. The work has been conducted on based of extensive material in different languages, including oriental ones. Special attention is paid to the discourse of the countries that have been actively promoting the term «Indo-Pacific» lately.
