Absolutism and Liberty. Russian Translations of the The Prince of Machiavelli and Anti-Machiavel by Friedrich the Great

The article discusses the features of the first Russian translation of the works of N. Machiavelli and its fate in Russia in conjunction with the "Anti-Machiavel" of the future King of Prussia Frederick II. The features of the Russian translation, made not from the original, and the possible conditions and reasons for its creation are shown.
