Abstract

The aim of this work is to study polymorphic variants of the leptin gene and their influence on the growth, development and dairy productivity of Holstein cow-heifers. Genotyping by the leptin gene locus was performed by the PCR-RFLP method. The frequency of occurrence of the C and T alleles made up 0.62 and 0.38, respectively, and of genotypes: CC – 35.5% (61animals), TC – 53.3% (90 animals), TT – 12.2% (21 animals). It is found that the studied population is under the state of genetic equilibrium according to the Hardy-Weinberg law. It is conclusively established that in the same conditions of nutrition, animals with the CC genotype were significantly superior to their herd mates with other genotypes by all the indicators characterizing live weight at different ages. However, in terms of dairy productivity, the individuals with the TT genotype were distinguished by high results, superior in yield by 673.4 kg (8.9%, p ≤ 0.01), in mass fraction of fat by 0.20%, in milk fat yield by 38.4 kg (12.9%, P ≤ 0.05), in milk protein yield by 22.7 kg (9.0%, P ≤ 0.05) from the indicators of the group of cow-heifers with the TC genotype. The coefficient of milkability for all groups of cow-heifers was higher than the reference value, which indicates the pronounced milk type of the livestock under study. The obtained data indicate the presence of associations of different genotypes of the leptin gene with the growth dynamics, physical development and dairy productivity of Holstein cattle.
