Between Havana and Moscow: The Cuban Revolution and the Split in the Latin American Lefts on the Question of Guerrilla Warfare

The purpose of this article was to study the nature and character of the contradictions within the Latin American left movement that arose in the 1960s, since the Cuban revolution. These deep disagreements over the ideas and plans of guerrilla warfare led to a split within a number of Communist parties, and their activists were forced to choose if they were willing to support them the position of the CPSU (advocating a combination of legal and clandestine methods of struggle) or the revolutionary Cuba’s attitude, which believed that the guerrilla would become a new avant-garde in the political struggle, and considered that its internationalist duty was to contribute to the revolutionary and anti-imperialist groups.
