Marshal Pétain

The essay presents a brief history of the life of Marshal Philippe Pétain, the military and political leader of France in the first half of the 20th century, a participant in the two world wars, the last head of the government of the Third Republic, the founder and leader of the so-called “French state”, who took the path of collaborationism with Nazi Germany. The biography of Marshal Petain gives a rare example in history of the rebirth of a conservative patriot into a defeatist and collaborator.
