The Most Ancient Inscriptions of Tomis

The author re-publishes two neglected funerary inscriptions (Mordtmann 1880, no. 2 and 3) not included in the corpora ISM II and VI.2. They date to the Hellenistic period and prove that another tomb stone (ISM II 456 from the first half of the fourth century BC) is not an isolated piece. Although a less developed polis, Tomis produced, therefore, inscriptions even before ca. 100 BC, when several public inscriptions are attested.

Автор переиздает две забытые надгробные надписи (Mortdtmann 1880, no. 2–3), не включенные в корпуса ISM II и VI.2. Они относятся к эллинистической эпохе и доказывают, что другая эпитафия (ISM II 456 первой половины IV в. до н.э.) не является изолированной находкой. Таким образом, в Томах, хотя они и были менее развитым полисом, надписи изготавливались и до I в. до н.э., от которого до наc дошли несколько общественных надписей.
