Abstract

The article continues a series of works on kinship terms in the Arkhangelsk dialects. It examines lexemes denoting descending kinship in the second and third stages of the ego, or in the second and third generation. In the literary language, there are several terms for denoting descending kinship, which distinguish kinship by gender and quantitative characteristics, namely: grandson, granddaughter, grandsons for the 2nd degree of kinship and great-grandson, great-granddaughter, great-grandsons for the 3rd one. The diminutives are not numerous (grandson, granddaughter- внучёк, внученька, etc.). In the dialects, the number of synonyms increases due to the word-forming elements, grammatical variation, and the use of the other words in the same meaning. These words belong to the lexical and semantic groups that are close to the kinship terms. To indicate whether a grandchild comes from the part of a son or a daughter there are numerous regular analytical forms.

The illustrations are taken from the “Arkhangelsk regional dictionary”, the wide database, and the author's own field notes.
