Abstract

The author contemplates on Russia's “special way” development concept. The article shows that this notion is an artificial construct propagated by engaged mass media and serves the interests of authoritarian leaders by introducing the idea of cultural determinism into mass consciousness. The author claims that Russia can abandon the “special path” imposed on it and go along a civilized development path.
