Abstract

The article deals with the two strategies of the participial passive in Tundra Nenets, one of which allows the expression of the agent, and another one does not. The first strategy is considered primarily on the basis of the construction with the perfective participle. The eventive vs. resultative nature of the passive as well as the agreement patterns of the construction are discussed. The limited admissibility of patientive subjects of the first and second persons is also noted. The second strategy, which is necessarily impersonal, is discussed on the basis of the construction with the imperfective participle. The participle in this construction is formed from the verb through the durative marker. This construction is used in habitual (generic) contexts and does not allow an expressed agent.
