Abstract

The Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences has a rich tradition of studying the history of Hungary. In order to reveal how the Hungarian people, language, and state influenced the development of all their neighbours and what impact the neighbours had on Hungary, Interdisciplinary Central European Seminar working at the Institute of Slavic Studies organised a conference «Hungary as a factor of state, ethnic and cultural interactions in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe». The event was attended by scientists from different cities of Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Yekaterinburg, Perm), Hungary (Budapest, Eger, Kaposvar) and Serbia (Novi Sad). They discussed Hungary’s relations 1) with Austria (Cisleithania) in the Habsburg monarchy, 2) with the Slavic peoples who were part of the Lands of the Crown of Saint Stephen, 3) with neighbouring states, including those where some of the former inhabitants of the Hungarian Kingdom turned out to be.
