Abstract

In the article, the use of substantivized participles in Old Church Slavonic translations is investigated in comparison with the use of participles in Greek originals. The author claims that the only criterion in determining the substantivization/absence of substantivization of the participial forms in the text is their fulfillment of the function of the naming of linguistic concepts. From this point of view, the Greek and Old Church Slavonic material is analyzed and various types of nominations by substantival participles are considered. Attention is paid not only to single-word nominations in the shape of participial forms but also to multi-word nominations with participial forms.

KeywordsOld Church Slavonic, Greek originals, substantival participles, multi-word nominations.
