Abstract

A poetic corpus of the Russian National Corpus is a useful tool for the scientists who study Russian poetry and poetic language.

The poetic corpus contains a comprehensive collection of Russian poetry of the 18th, 19th and 20th century, reflects its major trends and movements and is regularly updated. There are two layout types in the corpus: those of grammar and of versification.

The first type is the same as in the “main” corpus, while the second one is specially designed for the poetic corpus. The versification layout consists of the key parameters of any poetic text, which include meter, stanza, rhyme pattern, etc. These parameters allow to search for Russian poetic texts and automatically structure them. Previously to perform such tasks special reference literature or laborious text processing was required.

Using the grammatical and versification layouts allows us to solve various tasks on the border of linguistics and theory of literature. Among these tasks are some traditional tasks for Russian theory of verse, such as studying the poetic forms. There could also be performed tasks which are of interest for those who study historical linguistics, for instance investigating the history of Russian accentuation. The present paper suggests the possible ways of solving such tasks through the prism of the poetic corpus functionality.
