Abstract

This article analyzes the process of embedding anglicisms into the Russian language. The studied anglicisms are formed from a combination of modal and notional verbs or a noun-verb combination. These words are used by active Internet users, business elites, show business representatives, etc. The borrowings are of interest because they might be formed through lexicalization. In the source language the boundary between a word and a word combination is fragile. Therefore, it is difficult to determine whether lexicalization has occurred in the English language or in the recipient one. Peculiarities of word formation determine the specifics of their semantics and grammatical characteristics (fluctuations of morphological categories and syntactic functions). Lexicographic description of these units is also challenging. The lack of unified spelling and a small derivational paradigm show that the borrowed words are at the stage of development. In the English and Russian languages they are used in different spheres: in English they are general language words; in Russian they are used in a limited number of settings.
