Abstract

The article examines the life of V. V. Bakrylov, a revolutionary and folklorist, secretary of the Free Philosophical Association, creator of the consolidated version of Comedy of Tsar Maximilian and his Rebellious Son Adolf. New material from the archives of St. Petersburg, Moscow and Vologda provides a more detailed coverage of his childhood and youth, his work at the Office of Theaters, encounters with V. E. Meyerhold; new data concerning Bakrylov’s political views and the circumstances of his suicide were also discovered.
