Abstract

The article analyzes one of the "eternal" problems in psychology. The authors note that in Russian psychology the outstanding philosopher and psychologist S.L. Rubinstein carried out the most profound study of the principle of psychophysical unity. The authors' position is that the principle of psychophysical unity retains its significance for modern psychology. However, the accumulated empirical data and theoretical knowledge make it possible significantly develop the scientific investigation of this problem. Paying tribute to the views of S.L. Rubinstein, starting from his understanding of this principle, the authors of this work set the following tasks: 1) to consider the role of reflection as the main process that determines the formation of the psyche; to analyze the role of the subject in the generation of the mental; 2) to recognize in a general form statements about psychophysical unity, to consider the Fundamental problem of the existence of the mental as an independent substance, thereby to determine the ontological status of the mental; 3) to consider the question of how the psychic can determine the activity of the physiological. The article contains the answer to the questions posed, which allows us to approach the solution of the question of the subject of psychology. It is noted that the relevance of this kind of questions and answers to them is increasing due to the growing popularity of neurosciences, intensively mastering (claiming to master) the problem field, traditionally related to the field of psychology.
