A brief overview of the studies conducted with the help of deep submergence manned vehicles shows their important role in the discovery of hydrothermal fields оf the World Ocean. On the example of the three dives of deep submergence vehicle «Mir» the benefits resulted of direct visual observations were shown: Russian scientists first described new geological phenomena and refined ideas about communities of hydrothermal biota.
