Abstract

The article is devoted to revising of a three-dimensional concept of supervisor– subordinate guanxi. For better understanding of the complex and intricate guanxi phenomenon we offer to examine individual interests as main force in building guanxi relations and networks. The economic model of the tie between supervisor and subordinate may facilitate explanation of favor and benefit changes between the parties connected by the tie. Moreover, this approach does not ignore concept of leader–member exchange benefits. Loyalty, dedication, reciprocity, trust, all set of values, beliefs and associated behavioural norms that refer to guanxi may be considered as rationality of the ‘‘economic man” model.
