AbstractThe article deals with the history of Orthodoxy in China. An important role in the construction of churches was played by Russian merchants, who considered it their duty to strengthen the faith among the Russian population living far from home. One of the important points of the Russian-Chinese tea trade since the middle of the XIX century was the city of Hankou (now part of Wuhan). Here, in 1884, at the expense of Russian merchants, an Orthodox Church was built in the name of St. Alexander Nevsky.
