Abstract

The legal conscience of Russian judges largely determines their professional behavior. In sociological studies are discovered differences between Russian judges’ notions about the proper standards of professional behavior with the real rules of the behaviors that they perform. In the studies, as the INDEM Foundation in 2007–2010 and 2014, and the Institute for the Rule of Law in 2011 and 2013–2014, it was found that Russian judges as a professional group have a high level of unity of legal conscience and professional behavior and that this social group reproduces itself stable in the post-Soviet period. In the social group of Russian judges in this period the development of norms and rules of professional behavior occurs rather in the direction of their bureaucratization, and more taking into account of the possible consequences of the judgment for the political and national interests to the detriment of their independence and justice.
