Abstract

This study follows the life of the brightest and most charismatic politician in contemporary Brirtain, Boris Johnson – who went on to become prime-minister. His life story is presented in the broad context of the history and foreign policy of Great Britain in the late 20th – first quarter of the 21st century. It conveys a story of the years of education at the most prestigious educational institutions – Eton and Oxford, his work as a correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” in Brussels, which made him famous in Britain and Europe, . It covers Johnson's years of study at elite educational institutions - Eton and Oxford, work as a correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” in Brussels, which made him famous in Britain and Europe, after which he returned to London to become the editor of “The Spectator”. It also covers his parliamentary success, his achievements as well as his failures in the position of the Mayor of London for which he was elected twice. However special attention is paid to Johnson's role in the preparation and implementation of Brexit, the main architect of which he can rightly be called. While working as a correspondent in Brussels Johnson made a name for himself by ridiculing European bureaucracy. Promoting euroscepticism, he was guided by his desire to become famous, later on – by career considerations: the reputation he earned as one of the main eurosceptics helped Boris, who became the leader of the campaign for the country's exit from the European Union, to persuade the British people to vote for Brexit. However, it could be said that he was not certain of winning and was most likely using the campaign to edge him further towards becoming Prime Minister. Before taking the final step towards his goal of leading his country he had to work as the head of the Foreign Office, however this experience is deemed to be more of a failure than a success. Once achieving the role of Prime Minister in July 2019 Boris personally advised and helped the completion of Brexit and Britrain’s leaving the European Union.
