Abstract

The article analyzes in detail the attempts of the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Russia, James Harris, to conclude a defensively-offensive alliance with Russia, because Great Britain badly needed Russian military forces. However, Catherine II successfully promoted her doctrine of armed neutrality.
