The slow reformism of Sebastian Piñera

The article analyzes the results of the first year in power of President S. Piñera and new political trends in the life of the country. The main attention is paid to the social policy of the government, initiatives in the field of education, promotion of pension and tax reforms. It is noted that the greatest risks are associated with the deepening crisis in the relations between the authorities and the Mapuche Indians, the activation of the protest Indian movement. Among the new political phenomena, the author identifies the col-lapse of the coalition A New Majority and the beginning of the process of institutionalization of the left-wing radical party, alternative to the official center-left.
