Russian-British Rivalry in Nigeria: History and Prospects

Nigeria is a former British colony and the largest country in Africa in terms of population and economic potential. Great Britain declares the country to be its main partner on the continent. Russian-Nigerian relations developed intensively during the Soviet period, but were reduced to a minimum in 1990s. In the 21st century Russia’s attempts to promote Russian economic interests in Nigeria faced fierce opposition from London and multinational corporations. The article analyzes the stages and prospects of the Russian-British military-political confrontation and the role of the British High Commission in Abuja in it.
