Abstract

Radical changes in the management system of the corporation of coopers of Reims were initiated by this corporation in 1730 and approved by the decision of the baily of Reims J.-B. Carbon: the rights of masters to participate in general meetings were limited, general meetings were replaced by meetings of representatives to resolve both emergency questions and current affairs. The paper presents in detail the procedure for considering a petition and the course of resolving a conflict situation related to opposition to innovations by a group of coopers led by master Jean Malot. The author traces the influence of discursive practices of power structures and «bureaucratic» behavioral strategies on the craft environment, both on supporters and opponents of changes.
