Abstract

The manuscript with the Bartolo da Sassoferrato's commentary on Digestum Novum, stored in the Scientific Archive of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is not only the oldest copy of this work of the famous jurist, but also contains valuable evidence about its creators themselves, sheds light on the first official publication of Bartolo's work. The article reveals the role of the pedal Tomaso de Malatacis in the creation of the manuscript at all its stages. He joined the work of the main scribes, proofread the various parts of the text, and made the necessary insertions and corrections, supplied the text with glosses and explanations, made efforts to give a new course to the case, broken, perhaps because of the state of health of the first main scribe, Carlo de Bassacomari, or for another reason.
