Augustine’s Representation on a Man

The paper discusses the common ideas of Augustine on a man and his soul, as well as on the basis of the analysis of fragments of treatises (De div. Quaest. 64; De Gen. III, 20 [30], 22 [34]; De Trin. XII, 7 [10 ]) the one of the most important provisions of Augustine’s psychological doctrine is reconstructed. It is shown what Augustine understands by the categories “masculine” and “feminine”, and how he applies these categories to the human soul. The idea of Augustine is discussed, which consists in the fact that when the soul is turned to the material world, it is associated with the “feminine” principle; when the mind prevails in the soul and she rushes up to God, the “masculine” principle appears in it.
