Once Again on the Historicity of the Shroud of Turin: A Burial Shroud or a Product of High Technology?

Abstract

Funeral shroud kept in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, represents the quintessence of humanitarian and natural science issues related to Christian monuments. A seemingly ordinary artifact — a linen shroud, with a confidently traced provenance stretching at least from the time of the 4th Crusade, does not lose its position as the holder of the title of the most mysterious object of the Christian world — the burial shroud of Jesus Christ (?). The paper describes the history of the artifact, its photographic fixation and subsequent natural scientific study, the rich legendary background of the acquisition of the sindon and the main contradictions that worry the academic and theological community in connection with the imprint (or image) of a man on the fabric of the shroud.

4 Земная история Иисуса из Назареи, более известного как Иисус Христос, закончилась на иудейскую Пасху, прошедшую между 30 и 33 годами эры, которую в христианском мире отсчитывают от Рождества Христова. Помимо истории учения, веры и церквей, вслед за этим началась (и до сей поры не закончилась) другая — материальная история, ибо последователям пророка-бессребреника, учившего о душе и духе, хотелось сохранить о Нем вещественную память и, как принято у живых людей, обнаружить в немногих артефактах, принадлежавших Сыну Божьему или ставших инструментами страстей, частичку Его святости. Так христианский мир получил чудесные и загадочные святыни, зачастую дублирующиеся и почти всегда вызывающие у научного сообщества сомнения в аутентичности.
5 Для рассказа о христианских святынях мы выбрали из скромного списка, включающего обычно девятнадцать предметов (от пуповины Спасителя и Его слез до камня Голгофы), три наиболее наприключавшихся, наиболее волнующих умы. В предыдущей статье шла речь о священном Граале — чаше Тайной вечери [Дубровская, 2024], в этой попытаемся более пристально рассмотреть Туринскую плащаницу — последний покров Христа, и в следующей и последней проследим судьбу копья Лонгина, которым римский сотник проткнул бок Мессии, чтобы удостовериться, что тот мертв.
6 Не просто саван?
7 Плащаница, хранящаяся в соборе святого Иоанна Крестителя в Турине (см. сайт плащаницы [Shroud.com, 2024]), — это саван, прямоугольная погребальная пелена, в которую Спасителя обернули, сняв с креста на Голгофе, перед тем как Иосиф Аримафейский1 — богатый иудей и член Синедриона вместе с другим тайным последователем Иисуса — Никодимом2 с разрешения Понтия Пилата положил тело в гробницу. Плащаница была не единственным предметом, покрывавшим Христа в гробу, — голова его, как полагают, была обмотана куском ткани под названием «судариум», с VII века непрерывно хранящемся в испанском Овьедо. Вот и все земные ценности, которые сопровождали Мессию после смерти и спустя долгое время всплыли в истории как объекты поклонения верующих и предметы бесконечных споров и исследований, ведь на них остались материальные следы — кровь, лимфа, пот и, как в случае с плащаницей и судариумом, даже изображение человека, идентифицируемого со Страстотерпцем. Оба артефакта, по преданию, остались лежать в опустевшей гробнице после Воскресения. 1.  См. о нем подробнее в: [Дубровская, 2024].
