Abstract

Kazan University was opened in the early 19 th century. Scientific research involving the use of microscopes began there several decades later. The first microscopes were bought in Europe but, later on, began to be manufactured in-house. The paper reviews in detail the historical subjects associated with the purchases of microscopes and the studies carried out using these microscopes. The data concerning the preserved old microscopes and their whereabouts is provided.
