Abstract

This article analyses in detail the information of Appian and other sources about the revolt of the Italic communities of Etruria and Umbria and the passing of lex Iulia de sociis et latinis civitate danda in order to establish a causal relationship between these events. Although the Julius’ law was passed after rather than as a result of the Etrurian and Umbrian uprising, a relationship between these events still took place and was that this uprising accelerated the adoption of the Julius’ law and influenced its final content.

KeywordsSocial war, the roman citizenship, senate, latins, Etruria, Umbria, lex Iulia, lex Calpurnia.
