Abstract

The author emphasizes the unique role of Dostoevsky as a founding father of artistic anthropology of the total crisis of world culture in 19th–21st centuries. There is offered a survey of responses to Dostoevsky’s writings, ranging from critique and opinion pieces by Sigmund Freud, Thomas Mann, and Hermann Hesse to debates about the writer by the members of Le Studio Franco-Russe, which used to gather in 1929–1931, in Paris. Special attention is paid to the contexts of Dostoevsky’s reception set by the world wars and aesthetic paradigms of Expressionism, Avant-garde, Existentialism.
