Abstract

The article considers a small excerpt from the notebook of F. M. Dostoevsky for the novel “The Possessed&8j1; (RGB, f. 93, I.1.5, p. 60), which mentions the “possibility of Tveritinov&8j1;. The meaning of this record has not yet received a satisfactory explanation. The identification of Tveritinov as a secondary participant in the Russian revolutionary movement and translator A.N. Tveritinov, first hypothetically proposed by E.N. Konshina and supported by the compilers of the Academic Complete Works of F.M. Dostoevsky, seems erroneous. It seems that we are talking either about the fictional hero of journalistic dialogues of D.F. Samarin, or about the Moscow religious freethinker D.E. Tveritinov. The article deals in detail with both assumptions.
