Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the word-order in the utterances of the characters of “The Tale of Bygone Years&8j1; (non-translatable dialogic fragments are analyzed). It is established that the word-order in them is variable: in particular, it is found that the members of a sentence, forming its basic order, can take any position in relation to each other (subject – verb – object, subject – object – verb etc.). It is also established that the main reason for a certain order of words in the studied utterances is their actual division: the majority of members of a sentence may be in preposition or postposition in relation to the other members, forming a one-word theme or rheme. Moreover, the described feature of the word-order applies both to the members of a sentence forming its basic order (subjects, predicates, direct objects) and to the secondary sentence members (indirect objects with meanings of agent, patient, comitative, recipient, beneficiary, instrument and adverbial modifiers with meanings of location, time, cause), as well as adjectives included in compound nominal predicates.
