Abstract

The article reveals the way of transformation of an excerpt from George Gordon Byronʼs poem Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage into a Russian song that has become a folk song. The author analyzes the process of adaptation of the author’s translation made by Ivan I. Kozlov to the folk environment and its further distribution and functioning as a folklore text. Attention is drawn to the changes in the figurative system, subject and composition of the original source.
