Abstract

The redaction of the prayer of the archangel Michael, written in the XIX^thcentury by priest NikolaHadžin, differs from other redactions: the archangel talks with veshtitsa as well as her companions – vila and mora. It seems that the addition of two new heroes can be explained by the interpretation of a typical prayer title with the list of dangers. The elimination of a number of episodes in the plot is connected with the change in the pragmatics of the text: now it can be used not only as a defense of the home, but also as a personal amulet. The influence of South Slavic lores on the text is combined with the linguistic features of the prayer, which represents features of a vernacular language in the phonetics, morphology and syntax.
