Abstract

The article examines Ukrainian field ethnographic, folklore and dialectological studies of the Russian traditional culture, everyday life and dialect of Old Believers in the period from the middle of the 20th century. In the Soviet times, the leading centers for the study of the language of Old Believers were the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University, Yu. A. Fedkovych Chernivtsi State University, I. I. Mechnikov Odessa State University, and N. O. Ostrovsky Vinnytsia State Pedagogical Institute. A valuable contribution to the study of traditional housing of the Old Believers was made by the M. F. Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. A number of dissertations on Russian language were defended with the materials from field expeditions to the places of compact residence of Old Believers in Ukraine.
