The pilgrimage of heroes of the Kiev-Pechersk paterikon (based on textual edition from 1661)

The article discusses the journey motives in the Kiev-Pechersk paterikon edited by Innokenty Gizel (1661). The article illustrates how the movement of the monastery’s inhabitants developed from one text revision to another text revision showing the monastic virtue of a spiritual journey. Three types of a spiritual journey are explicated: pilgrimage, wandering, and journey for the purpose of practicing solitary prayer. Based on textual material, it is proved that when describing the spatial movements of the inhabitants of the Kiev-Pechersk monastery, the compiler used the «Word about the spiritual journey» by Saint John Climacusas a source.
