To the history of the Tale of Ropata of Novgorod: the younger folklore (Pogodins or Farluks) redaction of the plot

The fall of independent Novgorod was marked, in the first decades after this event, by desire of educated citizens (first of all from the clergy) to fix oral tradition connected with the centuries of prosperity of the city on the Volkhov river. These stories are of varying historical value, but, as a rule, are interesting as literary texts. Sometimes, they bear the stamp of repeated editing, but undoubtedly all go back to one source. In the article, the practically unknown redaction of the well-known «Tale of the ropata of Novgorod» (Latin temple). The new text, dated by the second half of the sixteenth century and published in the Annex, is an outstanding example of folklorization of the plot (up to the replacement of the main character) while maintaining the overall plot canvas.
