Abstract

Two ancient Russian chronicles – Lavrentievskaya and Ipatievskaya – include postmortem praises to Vladimir Monomakh. The first of them creates generalized not individual characteristic of the prince based on the poetic devices and repetitions. Only some personalia gave historicism to this text. The second chronicle creates the individual image of historical person based on listing of actions and traits corresponded to those that are mentioned in the «Sermon to the children» by Vladimir Monomakh.
