Structure and geography of the distribution of the incoming tourist flow in Portugal

Abstract

Portugal was in the group of European countries in which the volume of inbound tourist flow collapsed most significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the reasons for this was the presence of only one land neighbor of the country — Spain, which at the same time is not even the leader in the number of overnight stays of foreign tourists in Portugal. This determines the relevance of studying the structure of the incoming tourist flow and the geographical features of the distribution of tourists from different countries in Portugal. The novelty of the study is determined by the use in the course of the analysis of the tourist attraction index, calculated as the ratio of the number of tourists arriving from a certain country and the size of its population.

Together with Spain, the leading group in terms of tourist flow to Portugal includes such countries as Great Britain, France and Germany. They are slightly inferior to Brazil and the United States. As a result of the study, four main models of the distribution of tourist flow across the country were identified: Spanish (neighboring), British (strong resort-oriented), German (weak resort-oriented) and Brazilian (“distant relative”). Thanks to the calculation of the tourist attraction index, it was possible to identify small countries for which travel to Portugal is significant, although they occupy a small share in the structure of the incoming tourist flow due to their small population. These are countries such as Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Malta and Finland. At the same time, Brazil and the United States are only in the third and fourth ten countries according to the rating in accordance with the value of the tourist attraction index.

1 Введение. Португалия выделяется среди стран Европы высокой долей туризма в валовом внутреннем продукте страны, т. е. туризм является одной из важнейших отраслей её экономики. Но в период пандемии COVID-19 Португалия оказалась в группе европейских стран, в которых наиболее значительно обрушился объём въездного туристского потока. В эту категорию стран вошёл целый ряд стран Южной Европы, ориентированных на въездной курортный туризм.
2 В более выгодном положении в период пандемии оказались некоторые страны, расположенные по соседству с крупными поставщиками туристов, с которыми не устанавливались жёсткие правила пересечения границы. Португалия не обладает выгодами такого положения, т. к. единственная соседняя страна — Испания — хотя и является достаточно многонаселённой, даже не является лидером по количеству ночёвок иностранных туристов в Португалии. Пандемийные ограничения привели, в первую очередь, к сокращению турпотока из других стран, как неевропейских, так и более удалённых стран Европы. В этой связи возникает интерес к изучению въездного потока туристов из разных стран в Португалию, имеющего ярко выраженную географическую составляющую.
3 Цель исследования — выявление географических особенностей распределения въездного туристского потока в Португалию.
4 Степень изученности проблемы. В работах, посвящённых развитию туризма в Португалии, наиболее традиционной тематикой является изучение возможностей развития различных, иногда очень специфических, видов туризма, например, гастрономического [1], бердвотчингового [5], сельского [18] и др. Часто уделяется внимание развитию туризма в разных районах Португалии, например, на о. Мадейра [3], в курортном регионе Алгарве [14; 15], на Азорских островах [13], в винодельческом регионе Дау [12], во втором городе страны — Порту [16]. Имеются исследования, посвящённые изучения опыта Португалии в преодолении кризисных явлений [10], влиянию COVID-19 на устойчивость туризма [11]. Изучение влияния пандемии COVID-19 на туризм Португалии и, в частности, на изменение величины въездного турпотока, обычно рассматривается в работах, изучающих эту проблему для всех стран Европы [2; 19].
5 Методика, новизна и информационная база исследования. Методика исследования географического распределения въездного турпотока в пределах конкретных стран разрабатывалась на примере разных государств. Можно отметить, например, работы, выполненные на уровне Исландии [4], Швеции [20], Финляндии [6], Эстонии [7], Австрии и Швейцарии [2], и др. Также отработана методика, позволяющая проследить изменения в структуре въездного и выездного турпотока отдельных стран, в т. ч. в период пандемии COVID-19, например, в Латвии и Эстонии [8; 9], в Эстонии и Финляндии [17], и в целом ряде других стран [2].
6 В данной работе для анализа значимости турпотока стран с малой численностью населения использован индекс туристского притяжения, рассчитываемый как отношение числа прибывших туристов из определённой страны и численности её населения. Выражается он в количестве поездок на 1000 жителей. Расчёт производится по формуле: ИТП=ТПстранаотпр→странаназнЧНстранаотпр где ИТП — индекс туристского притяжения; ТПстрана отпр -> страна назн — туристский поток из страны отправления в страну назначения; ЧНстрана отпр — численность населения страны отправления.
