Abstract

The Republic of Ireland is rarely included in the circle of studies on the geography of tourism. The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the dynamics of the inbound tourist flow to Ireland since the end of the first decade of the 21 century. to the present and the main patterns of distribution of foreign tourists throughout the country. Statistical and cartographic research methods were used. In the dynamics of the inbound tourist flow to Ireland, two periods of decline were identified. The first was caused by the financial crisis of 2008–2011. The second was a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic announced in 2020. During these periods, the share of tourists from the UK increased and, therefore, the degree of diversity in the structure of the incoming tourist flow decreased. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant change in the structure of inbound tourism to Ireland, with a sharp decline in the share of tourists arriving from the United States and an increase in the share of tourists from a number of countries in the European Union. The distribution of foreign tourists across the territory of Ireland is largely determined by the presence of several large international airports in the western part of the country, creating competition for the capital of the state. The western part of Ireland is characterized by an increased tourist load and a high share of visitors from the US and the EU in the structure of the inbound tourist flow. The share of tourists from the UK is increased in the eastern part of the country. However, the maximum share of tourists from the UK falls on the interior of Ireland, rarely visited by tourists from other countries.

>>>> . 4. Central Statistics Office.
