Abstract | The review considers the monograph of the famous Ukrainian archaeologist S.V. Tersky, dedicated to the results of studying the past of Vladimir Volynsky over the last 2 centuries. The book contains all the data available today on architectural structures, residential buildings, fortifications, stratigraphy of the cultural layer of this outstanding monument - the center of the Volyn land, one of the most important parts of medieval Russia, during the X-XVII centuries. Much attention is also paid to the suburbs of the city, i.e. the historical and cultural context in which it arose, developed and reached its peak. Archaeological sources are considered by the author in close connection with historical (written) information. Unfortunately, Vladimir has not yet been studied in as much detail as other large cities of Southwestern Russia. |
