Abstract

The article presents the results of development of a new method of measuring materialism as an individual psychological trait based on Belk’s approach. The authors disclose conceptual bases of understanding the psychological nature of materialism, as well as its prerequisites and consequences for the individual. Psychometric properties of the questionnaire (content, structural, construct, cross-cultural validity, consistent and retest reliability) are considered in the article. The results of approbation allow us to state that the version obtained from 9 items combined into three scales (“Envy”, “Nongenerosity”, “Possessiveness”) has sufficient indicators for use in psychodiagnostic purposes.
