Abstract

The results of adaptation of Russian-language version of G. Shmidt’s scale for professional apathy are presented. On the sample of 275 employees of “Courier Service Express” organization it has been shown that adapted scale makes it possible to measure apathic thoughts (lack of interest and emotional loyalty for work in organization) and apathic actions (lack of tendency in realization of actions necessary for successful decision of work tasks). High reliability of Russian-language version of scale has been demonstrated: Cronbach's alpha for apathic thoughts scale is 0.86 and 0.73 – for apathic actions scale. Validity of the adapted scale has been confirmed by direct correlation of professional apathy with professional burnout and experiencing of nothingness in professional activity and by reverse one with dedication and satisfaction with job and experiencing of gratification and meaning in professional activity. It has been demonstrated that employees’ apathic thoughts do not depend on socio-demographic characteristics while apathic actions depend on age, family status and dependence of family financial state from an employee.

KeywordsProfessional apathy, professional burnout, experiencing in professional activity, dedication to job, satisfaction with job
