Abstract

Beliefs of L. I. Petrаzhitskij – one of the most prominent Russian legists, the author of original psychological theory of law and its role in formation of present-day scientific views on interaction between psychology and law are considered.  Some aspects of his heritage in the history of psychology of law development (legal psychology) as a science about psychological grounds of law are considered as well. The examination is based on analysis of a wide range of Russian and foreign literature on psychology of law in which different versions of understanding and interpretation of the problem of interrelation between psychology and law are proposed. The role of L. I. Petrаzhitskij’s views for modern attempts to ground the role of psychology of law as a science about psychological regularities in functioning and development of law in general is stressed by the authors.
