Abstract

The study of the reaction of group and social consciousness to the crisis of life is one of the important and complex tasks of social psychology. The article is devoted to the economic transformations that began in 1992. This turned out to be a hard test for the population of Russia: many enterprises were closed – out of 33.6 thousand medium and large there were just over 5 thousand, 55% of the population was either below the poverty line, or on the verge of this trait, there was an explosion of crime. In 1995, more than 15 thousand criminal groups operated in the country, public morality fell, population depopulation began, that is, the quality of life deteriorated significantly. Despite the situation, in the country, with a high level of politicization, there were no mass protests. The article analyzes the socio-psychological causes of this social phenomenon: on the one hand, the feeling of disappointment and doom among the population as a result of unsuccessful reforms, and on the other, the introduction of public anomie in a mass media campaign to justify reforms and methods of holding them.
