Abstract

The article deals with the first stage of Chinese modernization, which began in the second half of the XIX Century under the influence of an external factor as a result of the forced “opening” of the country by the leading Western powers. The exogenous type of economic modernization of China is emphasized. The article stresses recent changes in the scientific assessments related to the process of “China opening”, which had an impact on the accelerated development of the country along the capitalist path and was a stimulus for its modernization.
