Abstract

The article tells based on memoirs and contemporaries diaries about the life of Americans (mostly diplomats) who lived in St. Petersburg in the 19th century. Special attention is paid to health care (starting with childbirth), education and upbringing of children in American families, and their adaptation to Russian realities.
