Abstract

This article provides an overview of the approaches to explaining centrifugal tendencies in modern Spain on three cases - Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia. Certain similarities and differences in the approaches of authors dealing with problems of the regional conflict process and the Spanish model of the “state of autonomy” are demonstrated. The article also acquaints readers with the European dimension of centrifugal tendencies in Spain, which makes it possible to take into account the influence of an external factor on domestic political process in the country. The purpose of the article is to trace the explanations of centrifugal tendencies in modern Spain addressing three cases. The author concludes that centrifugal forces in modern Spain are fueled by both internal and external sources. The significance of this article is to analyze approaches that explain the dynamics of the center - regions conflict in modern Spain.
