Abstract

The article explores the life and work of one of the ideologists and leaders of the May revolution and the War of Independence Manuel Belgrano (1770–1820). Special attention is paid to his plans of modernization of Argentina his military activities as the commander of the army when on September 24, 1812 at Tucuman and in February 1813 at Salta Belgrano defeated the Spanish forces his efforts at Tucuman Congress urging an immediate Declaration of Independence.
