Abstract

The article examines the historical way of Turkish statism — one of the most important components of the economic policy during the republican period. Its origin, obviously, should be attributed to the Ottoman period. Gradually weakening its influence, statism seems to have completely lost its relevance with the beginning of the period of economic liberalization in the last decades of the 20th century. Still a more careful analysis indicates the tendency of its preservation in the form of state financial expansion for a significant part of the 1980s and in the 1990s. And also in the 21st century there are signs of statism revival in the form of a rapidly developing partnership of the state as represented by the pro-Islamic Party of Power (the Justice and Development Party) and the conservative Anatolian bourgeoisie. This is a direct reference to the model of public-private partnership of the period of Turkish semi-statist “mixed economy” of the 1960s — 1970s.
